Reiki
Reiki is increasingly used in healthcare alongside conventional treatments.
It is a Group 2 Complementary Therapy as stated in the House of Lords published report of 2000.
Reiki is a gentle form of therapy that originates from Japan. Pronounced ray-key, Reiki means 'universal life energy' in Japanese.
Healers have an understanding that we have a physical body that is surrounded by an energy field. When we become unwell physically, emotionally or mentally this has an unbalancing effect on our energy field.
The Reiki Therapist uses simple
hands-on or non-touch techniques to channel healing to the patient. This allows their energy field to rebalance, which in turn may ease symptoms physically, mentally and emotionally.
The person receiving Reiki remains clothed and can be lying down or sitting in a chair. Most people who receive Reiki find the experience very relaxing, as it may reduce anxiety, improve energy levels, aid restful sleep and reduce some of the symptoms experienced during their cancer treatment.
